Privacy Policy
Defaultify is built around one idea: your defaults are your business. Both apps inspect and manage default apps on your device. We never collect, upload or sell the list of apps you have installed, your default app settings, your files or your profiles.
This policy covers Defaultify for Mac, Defaultify for Android (com.circuitandmosslabs.defaultify) and this website.
Defaultify for Mac
Processed only on your Mac
- Installed apps and default handlers. Defaultify reads which apps can open each file type and link, and which app is the default, using macOS's standard Launch Services APIs.
- Your settings. Profiles, backups, custom file types and Default Guard history are stored as files in
~/Library/Application Support/Defaultifyon your Mac. - Notifications. Default Guard alerts are created on your Mac. They aren't sent through our servers.
The Mac app contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
When you buy Defaultify Pro for Mac
Purchases are processed by Paddle.com, our reseller and Merchant of Record, which handles your payment details, billing address and sales tax under Paddle's privacy policy. We never see your full card number. Purchase status is managed by RevenueCat, which stores an anonymous app user ID, the products you bought and transaction dates, so the app can unlock Pro. Paddle shares the email address you give at checkout with us, so we can send receipts and help with your purchase.
Updates
The Mac app may check this website for new versions. That request includes the app version and macOS version, like any web request; it doesn't include anything about your defaults.
Defaultify for Android
Processed only on your device
- Installed apps and handlers. Defaultify queries installed apps and the file types and links they handle using standard Android APIs (
PackageManager), with theQUERY_ALL_PACKAGESpermission. This is the app's core purpose. All inspection happens in memory on your device. - Your settings. Profiles, backups and preferences are kept in the app's private storage.
Third-party services
- Google AdMob shows ads in the free version. It may process your advertising ID, approximate location from your IP address, and ad interaction and diagnostic data. See Google's ad policies. Defaultify Pro removes ads.
- Google Play Billing and RevenueCat process in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, purchase tokens, transaction dates, currency and entitlement status. Payment details are handled by Google Play.
The INTERNET permission is used only by AdMob, for purchase validation, and to check for updates.
You can reset or delete your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalisation in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
This website
The website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. Like any web server, ours keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser user agent, page requested and time) for security and troubleshooting. They're kept for a limited time and not shared.
Sharing
We don't sell, rent or trade personal data. We share data only with the service providers named above, under their own terms, or when required by law.
Retention and deletion
- Mac: delete the
~/Library/Application Support/Defaultifyfolder, or remove the app, to erase all local data. - Android: clear the app's storage in Settings → Apps → Defaultify → Storage, or uninstall it.
- Purchases: purchase records are kept by RevenueCat, Google Play and Paddle as required for tax and accounting. Contact us to ask about deleting what we hold.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data about you, and object to some processing. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.
Children
Defaultify is a general-audience utility and isn't directed at children under 13 (16 in the EU). We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
We'll post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
